How to Factory Reset the ASUS RT-N16 Wi-Fi Wireless Router

  1. Make sure your ASUS RT-N16 is powered on.
  2. Locate the factory reset button on the back of the RT-N16 router, near the power connector.
  3. Using a paper clip or similar pointed object, press and hold the reset button for 5-10 seconds until the power LED begins to flash.
  4. Release the button and wait 2-3 minutes for the router to fully reboot.
  5. You can now reconfigure your RT-N16 using the default credentials below.

NOTE: If the factory (also known as hard) reset button on your ASUS RT-N16 is too small to push with your finger, try using an object such as the tip of a paper clip.

This is often the best way to press the reset button on ASUS routers.

ASUS RT-N16 Default Login Credentials

After performing a factory reset, your ASUS RT-N16 will be restored to its default settings. Use the following credentials to access the router’s admin panel:

  • Default IP Address: 192.168.1.1
  • Default Username: admin
  • Default Password: admin

Open a web browser and navigate to 192.168.1.1 or http://router.asus.com to access the ASUS RT-N16 setup page.

The ASUS RT-N16 is a single-band Wireless-N (802.11n) router with speeds up to 300 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band. It features a 480 MHz Broadcom BCM4718 processor, 128 MB of RAM, 32 MB of flash storage, three detachable antennas, four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports, one Gigabit WAN port, and two USB 2.0 ports for shared storage or printer access. The RT-N16 was widely popular among enthusiasts for its excellent third-party firmware support, including DD-WRT, Tomato, and Merlin. It includes a built-in DLNA media server, UPnP AV support, and download manager for USB-attached storage.
